Job Description

Job Summary:

This is a Senior DBA role largely responsible for providing operational database services related to SQL Server and Mongo DBs footprint. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with other team members to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems. This person will be regarded as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for this environment. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


Platform Specific Required Skills:

   SQL Server:

  • Strong experience in Database Administration of different SQL Server versions (2014, 2012 and 2008R2).
  • Must have experience running production SQL Server Database Clustered environments including: maintenance, tuning, backup/restore, analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication.
  • Working knowledge of index management, integrity checks, configuration. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
  • Hands on experience in using SQL Server tools ( Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, DMVs, system sprocs).
  • Experience in extracting and transforming data between homogenous and heterogeneous systems using dynamic DTS packages, IMPORT/EXPORT, BULK Insert, BCP and XML Technologies.
  • Experience in developing DTS Packages and migrating DTS Packages to SSIS Packages.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Reporting Services.
    Mongo DB:
  • Solid knowledge of MongoDB and other NoSQL database concepts.
  • Experience in setting up data sharding and replica set.
  • Hands on experience in mongo db performance tuning, monitoring, infrastructure planning.
  • Hands on Experience in DB Installation, Upgradation, Patching.
Required Background:
  • 7-9 years of SQL Server DB Administration experience.
  • 3-4 years of mongo DB administration experience.
General Required Skills:
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
  • Should have good documentation skills for processes and procedures ( creating KBs, runbooks, etc. )
  • Experience in Automating Administration tasks and Database Maintenance Tasks.
  • Ability to provide Weekend support and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Working knowledge of managing Large Database Systems (LDB).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; make presentations to an internal audience, and interact positively with upper management.
  • Independent problem-solving, self-direction.
  • Must have ability to teach/mentor/lead other team members.
  • A natural sense of urgency, ownership, initiative and a positive team player philosophy to be reflected in the daily work ethic.
Desired background and Skills
  • SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design ( stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints )
  • Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components - Netapp, XIV.
  • Ability to write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts.
  • Certification in Microsoft SQL and Mongo is a plus.
