API Developer (RPG/AS400)

Job Title: API Developer (RPG/AS400)

Location: Denver (onsite at first and then fully remote) - seeking local candidates to Denver, Colorado

Job Type: Part-Time, Variable Hours, Contract

Pay Rate: Up to $50/hour (depending on experience)

Please note that we cannot work C2C or with 3rd Party Vendors.

Seeking a skilled API Developer with expertise in RPG programming on the AS400 platform. The candidate will be responsible for creating secure API endpoints to allow real-time data interaction between the AS400 system and other applications. This role is ideal for someone looking for a supplemental side gig with flexible hours, such as a retiree or someone with another flexible job.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop API endpoints in RPG to facilitate data retrieval and posting on the AS400 system.
  • Ensure APIs are secured using user/password/token and SSL, as they will be operating within their own firewall.
  • Collaborate with other applications to provide real-time data access and updates.
  • Current APIs in use include Warehouse Management Systems and Financial Systems.
  • Own the API development process and act as the primary teacher of API endpoints for the company.
  • Communicate and document the API build and call process to team members to facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • Provide ongoing support and development for custom RPG/Cobol coding as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in RPG programming on the AS400 platform.
  • Strong understanding of API development and integration.
  • Experience with securing APIs using authentication and SSL.
  • Excellent communication skills for knowledge sharing and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Cobol programming.
  • Previous experience working with real-time data architectures.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements.
