Full use of materials and mechanical engineering principles, concepts, theories and techniques to solve problems related to manufacturing and design. Contribute to development of processes at all stages, from concept creation to production tooling.
R&D and Product Development: Conduct research and development projects related to new and/or improved orthodontic products: metal and ceramic brackets, stainless steel, adhesives, elastics and elastomeric products. Develop in-house and/or outside analytical capabilities for R&D, product development, trouble-shooting and root-cause analysis. Develop and implement materials/processes specifically targeted to improve the quality of products. Provide competitive products and intellectual property (IP) analyses input to the new products development process (as-assigned).
Manufacturing Engineering: Provides manufacturing and process improvement to production departments such as welding, brazing, polishing, MIM, environment engineering. Conduct process-improvement projects related to the various manufacturing processes: metal injection molding, ceramic injection molding, band-forming, feedstock formulation, debinding, sintering, welding, brazing, heat-treatment, polishing, corrosion-prevention and surface-treatment.
Limited use of project management principles, concepts, theories and techniques to lead project team while maintaining accountability for schedule and budget.
Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to work in team environment as contributor and leader
3+ years of experience working with materials and the processing technology to produce those materials. Job duties include analyzing materials and data, conducting tests, troubleshooting, monitoring performance, insuring quality control and creating documentation.
3+ years of experience developing new methods of testing, training technicians and lab workers, maintaining inventories and ordering supplies. Engineers must also stay up-to-date on industry standards, government regulations and new developments in their field
3+ years of experience designing with Pro-E (Wildfire 2.0 or higher) or equivalent Solidworks.
3+ years of project management experience with multi-discipline teams.
2+ years of injection mold component and mold design.
Possess a strong knowledge of mechanical manufacturing techniques including machining, sheet metal, and injection molding.
Ability to create and maintain scheduled plans while maintaining quality of engineering deliverables with guidance for engineering management.
Excellent decision making/problem solving skills.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Power Point.
